2.23.09 Fauber Alexander Geometry/pre-Calculus

2.23.09 - Here at Alexander High - even more blocks on my internet connection @ the high school than @ the elem. You never know just how these high school students might get off on a web site that may be beyond the 'norm' - oh such a negeative impact it would have upon their life it could have - gee do they not go there when they can - is not the restrictions placed upon our students only a slightly missguided purpose? Should not the freedom of exploration best handled under a guiding mentor better than forcing our youth to go exploring without a guiding hand? Anyway - who do we think we are fooling as to being able to restrict the life of our youth?
Seems that the aspect of the system of calling through the Sub Line & not knowing who the Sub will be - has the teachers only leaving the classic work sheet for stludents to do. Where as @ Athens Math dept - i get calles requesting me - for I can really teach the class. Granted some Subs could not do high school math, but it might be more appropriate for subjects such as math or science have a list of Subs that could keep up the work load ----- just an idea.
Seems as though an economics course @ a higher level should be taught @ the high school level.

Well - here I am in feb. 2009 still substituting! Do still enjoy teaching yet some of the students that are not really wanting to be in school or those that have not really had it shown to them - why school is important to their future earning potential.
Have been @ Athens High quite a bit this year - some really involved students & some that - usually through no fault of thier own (parents real problem). One difficulty with Athens High is their starting time - means I need to get up @ 5am - oh so early!
More & more I can really tell how a teacher handles their students by how they act with me. Sometimes I really have to put my foot down - so to speak - just to maintain the proper learning atmosphere in the class room. Do not know how some teachers put up with some of the feedback that some of the students put out at their teachers & fellow students. Many of these students will have a rude awakening when they enter the job market.
